Knit and Natter  
Every Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:30am.

Knit and Natter Groups are for adults who enjoy knitting, crochet, cross stitch and other crafts. They are free of charge to attend and participants have the opportunity to share hints and tips, swap patterns, meet new people and learn new skills. Members can bring along a project they are already working on or can start something new.

Writers Block - Creative Writing  
Fortnightly on a Tuesday of every month from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

Booking is essential as numbers are limited.

Are you a budding writer or poet? Come along to our new group and meet like-minded people and share ideas. Whether it is your first attempt or you are a seasoned writer you will be prompted by new ideas each week. Use this time out to take a well-deserved break from your day; to escape and relax the mind.

Rhythm and Rhyme

Rhythm and Rhyme sessions introduce parents and children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories.

Each session offers an entertaining opportunity for children to engage with others, provides a good foundation to develop their reading, listening and language skills and of course to have lots of fun!

Rhythm and Rhyme is an exciting free programme to introduce children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories in the library. Rhythm and Rhyme is a great opportunity for children to have fun and learn in a relaxed venue while giving parents and carers the chance to socialise.

Page Turners Adult Reading Group  
Held on last Tuesday of the month from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
 
Adult Reading Groups are a great opportunity for members to join in some lively literary discussions in a relaxed, friendly environment. The groups encourage people to read for pleasure, share their enthusiasm and express opinions about books and their authors.

The group meets on a regular basis and the book the group will be discussing can be borrowed from the library catalogue for free.

The Reformation Exhibition  

A joint project by Libraries NI and PRONI. It was done to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. However, the  content is more than that and it focuses on documents and materials held by PRONI and items from the Fine Book Room in Belfast Central Library.

Seen: Stories of Childhood, Hope, and Belonging  

Ballymena Central Library is proud to host Seen, a powerful exhibition developed by artist Kate Nicholl, illustrator Oliver Jeffers, and the Anaka Women’s Collective. First shown at Stormont and recently at the Nerve Centre, Seen gives voice to children in the asylum system, showcasing their hopes, dreams, and experiences through art and storytelling. Part of the literary strand of a cross-border project promoting creativity and cultural engagement, the exhibition highlights the role of storytelling in building empathy and understanding across communities.

 

Visitors are invited to experience the children’s artwork and words, reflecting on themes of identity, resilience, and belonging, and to consider the power of creativity to bridge divides.

Step into a world of wonder with Libraries NI’s Storyteller in Residence Liz Weir MBE, for a captivating afternoon of storytelling as part of the Creative Ireland, Shared Island Project. Liz will weave tales inspired by shared history, identity, and community - stories that spark imagination and bring people together.

As part of the Creative Ireland, Shared Island Project, join us for a special live performance by singer songwriter Tiernan Heffron, Young Ambassador for The King’s Trust and one of County Antrim’s own. Award-winning novelist Jan Carson and acclaimed actor Jamie Beamish sit down for an evening of honest, humorous, and inspiring conversation about their creative journeys. From different community backgrounds, Jan and Jamie reflect on how place and culture shaped their paths from early beginnings to acclaimed novels, sold-out theatre runs, and major screen roles (Bridgerton, Derry Girls, The Fire Starters, The Raptures), Jan and Jamie share insights into the highs, hurdles, and unexpected turns of life in the arts and what it means to tell stories that resonate.

Magic and Make-Believe: A Family Fun Day!  

Step into a world of imagination and wonder with a full day  of hands-on creativity and magical entertainment for the whole family! Start the day by getting crafty at 11:30am. Kids (and adults too) can dive into the colourful world of Modelling Magic, sculpting and shaping their own creations. At 1:00pm gather around for the first of two dazzling magician performances—full of tricks, illusions, and interactive fun guaranteed to wow audiences of all ages. At 2:30pm, the magic continues with another show, keeping the excitement alive with even more surprises, laughter, and mystery.

Folding Friendships: Origami Creations for Connection  

Set sail on a creative journey this Good Relations Week as we celebrate the theme of CONNECT through the art of origami! Children are invited to join us for a fun, hands-on workshop where we’ll be folding colourful boats, hearts, and foxes. Once complete, these special origami creations will be shared with library customers when they borrow books, spreading messages of connection and positivity throughout our community.

Watercolour Wonders: A Creative Workshop

Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this session will guide you through the basics of watercolour painting—including brush techniques, colour blending, and simple compositions.
