Irish Language Rhythm and Rhyme Session  

Irish Language Rhythm and Rhyme session held on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10:00am - 10:45am.

 

Rhythm and Rhyme is an exciting free programme to introduce children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories in the library. Rhythm and Rhyme is a great opportunity for children to have fun and learn in a relaxed venue while giving parents and carers the chance to socialise.

Rhythm & Rhyme  
Every Wednesday from 11:00am - 11:30am.

Rhythm and Rhyme sessions introduce parents and children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories.

Each session offers an entertaining opportunity for children to engage with others, provides a good foundation to develop their reading, listening and language skills and of course to have lots of fun!

Knit and Natter  
Every Thursday from 11:00am - 1:00pm.

Knit and Natter groups are for adults who enjoy knitting, crochet, cross stitch and other crafts. They are free of charge to attend and participants have the opportunity to share hints and tips, swap patterns, meet new people and learn new skills. Members can bring along a project they are already working on or can start something new.

Tea and Newspapers  

Every Friday 10:00am – 12 noon.

Tea and Newspapers groups give adults the opportunity to meet new people, socialise and discuss local and national affairs in the newspapers while enjoying complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits.

Enhance your well-being and calm the mind through relaxed meditative colouring. A gentle way to reduce stress using intricate colouring patterns and designs.

Advice and support for claimants and members of the public supported by Disability Action.

A Year in the Woods  

Downpatrick Library: 6.30pm
Speaker: Paul Clements
 

Writer and travel author Paul Clements reflects on a year spent living in a woodland cottage on the historic Montalto estate. Drawing on his latest book A Year in the Woods, Paul blends personal observation with deep cultural and historical insight, exploring the estate’s 260-year story — from the 1798 Rebellion to its modern revival.
A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and President of the Belfast Literary Society, Paul also reflects on the life of Francis Joseph Bigger, offering a thoughtful and atmospheric exploration of place, memory and heritage.

History of Downpatrick and County Down Railway  

This session offers another opportunity to hear Museum Curator Neil Hamilton explore the history of the Downpatrick and County Down Railway, highlighting its importance to local heritage and its role as a living restoration project.
