Letter
19th April, 1916
Dear Private Butler,
I was surprised to hear from your wife that you had not received your cheque due to you for the past month. The cheque was duly forwarded on the 1st inst to the address which you left with me on the 21st ult. 195 You must therefore apply yourself for the cheque at the address, namely- Depot, Northumberland Fusiliers Newcastle-on-Tyne.
When you write to me please date your letters, and you might at least say which Chief Librarian you mean. Your last letter is simply "To the Chief Librarian", but of where? This is very vague.
Yours truly,
CHIEF LIBRARIAN
Private Matthew Butler, No 5080,
5 Platoon, A. Coy.,
5th Batt. Northumberland Fusiliers,
Carville Schools,
Wallsend-on-Tyne
