Colonel Staples
No. 2 Infantry Record
Y o r k

Dear Sir,

On the 16th October I wrote to No. 1 Agricultural Company, Depot, West York, and on the 15th November I wrote to the Officer in Charge, No. 2 Infantry Record, York, in reference to No. 48116, Private M. Butler, West Yorkshire Regiment, enquiring whether he was still in the Army or not. On the 19th October I received a note stating that this matter was being dealt with by the Record Office, but I have received no reply to my letter of the 15th November.

The Belfast Library and Technical Instruction Committee are anxious to have this man's position defined, as at present we do not know whether to retain his name as a member of our Staff or not.

I may say we were paying his wife his salary until we discovered that he was employed by the Leeds Tramways, but since that date we have paid her nothing.

Hoping you will be able to give me the necessary information as soon as possible.

I remain,

Yours truly,

JBG Goldsbrough
