Dear Captain Coulson,

I was very glad to receive your letter of the 28th ult. 109 I had been wondering and speaking about you for some weeks previous. I hope you are quite reconciled to your 15th Battalion again in the trenches. You must be one of those well-trained officers when you are called upon to such important duty as second in command of a regiment. I suppose you will be going on for Major and then Colonel and so on? Mind you, I believe there are Colonel's even younger than you, having seen an account of a young Darlington man (Lieut-Col B.B. Bradford,V.C. Durham Light Infantry) being promoted to colonelcy.

I shall be delighted to have an afternoon's talk with you I don't know how soon you may be leaving for your Christmas holiday but whenever you come you will always find a seat and a welcome at Bryn Dhu.

I quite agree with your sentiment regarding lust of conquest and loss of destruction of the Germans and that those forces which they have carried through other countries should now be turned upon their own country by the Entente Powers. I was hearing an address the other Sunday evening from the Padre Captain of a Canadian regiment, who is on leave from the Front. He quite confirms what you say about the cheerfulness and esprit de corps of all our men in the midst of great hardships and great discomforts.

By the way, Captain Simpson110 is doing instructing work with men for the Front at Hornsey, Yorkshire. I do not know where Warren is. I saw him in the early part of this year and he was then just leaving for the North of England.

My daughter, Irene is living at Kensington just now and we expect her home for holidays on the 20st inst. 111 We are all well and wish you the best of luck with our kind regards.

I am,
Yours sincerely,

Captain Coulson
15th Bn., R.I.R.
