Private J.F. Eagleson,
A. Section, No. 29 Stationary Hospital
Italian Expeditionary Force
Italy

Dear Eagleson,

It was indeed a great surprise to me when I received your letter from Italy. The last I had heard of you was from your brother and you were then in hospital. I am sure you will find it a great change from France.

There have been no great changes here since your last visit but I am very sorry to say that Wm. Brown was killed about the 12th inst. 72 He is the first of our staff to pay the supreme sacrifice.

O'Rourke was taken prisoner during the fighting last March so his service was rather short. The rest of the boys are still all right, and the same may be said of those of our staff, who are still in the Library and were here in your time.

I will be glad to hear from you again at the first opportunity you have to let us know what you think of Italy.

With best wishes for your safety and success from all here,
I remain,
Yours truly,
