BBC Comes To Town 2024 OmaghBBC Northern Ireland has been celebrating its 100th birthday with a series of BBC Comes to Town events.

Omagh is the next destination for these regional roadshows, including school visits, outside broadcasts and a busy programme of activities in Omagh library.

Good Morning Ulster will get things underway with a series of reports and interviews from Omagh on Monday 4 November.

Hugo Duncan and special guests, including Nathan Carter and Dominic Kirwan, will be live on BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle from the Strule Arts Centre on Wednesday 6 November. Omagh library will be hosting a new interactive BBC display with opportunities for school and community groups to experience what it’s like to present a BBC Newsline bulletin, weather forecast or to provide commentary for a big BBC Sport NI fixture. There’ll also be a chance to take part in a specially written BBC radio drama and to find out about BBC careers and apprenticeships.

This display will be in Omagh Library on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 November and it will be accompanied by Picture Box, an exhibition of more than 300 photographs from the BBC’s local archives.

BBC Writers will also be in Omagh Library from 2-5pm on 7 November and will have information and advice for writers who’d like to get their work on the BBC.

School engagements will continue into the following week when BBC Weather presenter Geoff Maskell will be making a series of ‘weather watcher’ visits to local primary schools.

Other BBC events to mark 100 years of BBC services included a broadcast concert from Belfast Cathedral with John Toal, Tara Mills, Declan Harvey the Ulster Orchestra and Codetta.
