Brew Monday brings a cuppa and conversation to libraries across Northern Ireland
Published 29 Dec 2025
This January, Samaritans in Northern Ireland invites the public to take part in Brew Monday, the nationwide initiative encouraging connection and positive mental-wellbeing through a simple cup of tea or coffee. Brew Monday is on Monday 19 January — and across Northern Ireland during that week, libraries will open their doors to host welcoming cuppa and chat events.
Rather than emphasising a specific "blue" day, Samaritans encourages ongoing awareness and conversations about wellbeing. By choosing to highlight Brew Monday over Blue Monday, Samaritans aims to promote healthy, supportive conversations and reinforce that mental health is something to talk about every day.
At participating libraries, visitors can drop by for a free hot drink while enjoying friendly conversation and learning more about the vital work of Samaritans in our communities. The aim is to bring people together, reduce isolation, and remind us all of the power of connection — especially during the cold, often lonely winter months.
“This Brew Monday, we’re proud to support Samaritans by offering inviting, accessible library spaces around Northern Ireland,” said Libraries NI Chief Executive Dr Jim O’Hagan. “Our libraries are more than books — they’re warm, welcoming community hubs where a cup of tea and a friendly chat can make a real difference.
