Bringing generations together in libraries across Antrim and Newtownabbey

A photo of children and older people playing chess togetherLibraries NI is inviting people of all ages to come together this April as part of Intergenerational Week, with a range of free events taking place in libraries across Antrim and Newtownabbey.

The programme encourages connection between generations through shared activities, offering welcoming spaces where older and younger people can spend time together, try something new and enjoy meaningful experiences in their local library.

Events taking place include:

Greystone Library – Mapping Monument Display

13–24 April, during opening hours

Visit Greystone Library to explore the Mapping Monument Display, which examines the landscape legacies of the Ordnance Survey in and around Lough Foyle and Binevenagh. This informative exhibition is open to all and can be viewed during normal library opening hours.

No booking required.

Glengormley Library – Sporting Memories Café

Tuesday 21 April, 1:30pm–2:30pm

Take a nostalgic look back at the history of the FIFA World Cup in Glengormley Library. This relaxed session will include footage, quizzes and discussion, with a chance to reflect on local community involvement in the world’s biggest sporting stage. Enjoy a cuppa and good conversation.

Greystone Library – Intergenerational Coffee and Poem Morning

Thursday 23 April, 10:30am–12 noon

Enjoy a relaxed Coffee and Poem Morning in Greystone Library, bringing people of all ages together to share favourite poems and conversation. This informal session celebrates reading and offers a welcoming space to listen, chat and take time out. Tea, coffee and a friendly atmosphere guaranteed. Booking advisable.

Ballyclare Library – Intergenerational Board Games

Monday 27 April, 2:00pm–4:00pm

Join us in Ballyclare Library for a relaxed and welcoming board games session as part of Intergenerational Week. This friendly event brings people of all ages together to connect and enjoy games in an inclusive setting. Whether you are a seasoned strategist, a casual player or trying something new, everyone is welcome.
