From rare books to contemporary fiction and historical reflections, these events are perfect for anyone passionate about literature and Northern Ireland’s cultural heritage.

On Love Your Library Day, Wednesday 23 October at 2:00pm, join us for Secret Stories as we bring items from the Fine Book Room out into the Heritage Library. Explore a unique collection of treasured books, including works from the 1400s, Shakespeare’s fourth Folio, and other fascinating hidden gems.

Next, on Thursday 24 October at 6:00pm, we’re partnering with The Open University for Finding the Words, a discussion with journalist and author Brian Rowan about his latest book, Impossible Peace. This event is part of the Ceasefire 30 initiative, reflecting on Northern Ireland’s political journey since the 1994 ceasefires. Newspaper reports from the period will also be on display.

To finish the week, on Saturday 26 October at 1:30pm, we’re launching the Libraries NI Contemporary Fiction Collection, featuring authors born in or connected to Northern Ireland. This diverse collection includes adult and junior fiction, poetry, and plays, celebrating the voices shaping today’s literary landscape.

Booking is advisable for all events, to reserve your place, please contact Belfast Central Library on 028 9050 9210 or email belfast.central@librariesni.org.uk.
