Experience the Beauty of Botanical Watercolours at Belfast Central Library

Belfast Central Library is delighted to host the launch of a stunning new art exhibition by botanical artist Maurice Shannon on Thursday 1 May 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
To mark the opening, Maurice will be giving a special live demonstration, painting one of his fantastic botanical watercolours in the library’s foyer. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to watch the artist at work, bringing delicate plants and flowers to life with watercolour right before their eyes.
Maurice Shannon’s original paintings are inspired by the natural beauty of his own garden. His work captures the intricate details and vibrant colours of plants and flowers, celebrating nature through a skilled and sensitive use of watercolour.
This event is a great chance to meet the artist, enjoy a live art demonstration, and be among the first to view the full exhibition, which will remain on display during library opening hours following the launch.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome. No booking required.

LIBRARIES NI SUMMER OPENING HOURS
Libraries NI’s Summer Opening Hours across the network of libraries will take effect from Monday 30 June until Saturday 30 August 2025. Many customers use the library differently over the summer period and therefore the opening hours have been adjusted accordingly. Libraries will be open to 6:00pm instead of 8:00pm during this period, late-night opening after 6:00pm will recommence from Monday 1 September.

Libraries NI Launch Big Summer Read
Libraries across Northern Ireland are inviting children of primary school age to take part in this year’s Big Summer Read, a 66-day challenge designed to get young people reading for at least 15 minutes a day throughout the school holidays. The Big Summer Read encourages daily reading and regular library visits from Friday 27 June to the end of August.

Libraries in Mid and East Antrim Unite to Tackle Loneliness with Week of Connection and Creativity
Libraries in Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne are coming together to mark Loneliness Awareness Week 2025, running from 9 to 13 June, with an engaging line-up of free events designed to foster connection, celebrate community, and highlight the support available across the Borough.
