This is a unique opportunity for the public to delve into the fascinating history of Northern Ireland’s oldest public library.

As part of EHOD, Northern Ireland’s annual celebration of local architecture, history, and culture, Belfast Central Library will open its doors to showcase its remarkable past and architectural splendour. Visitors will have the chance to admire and learn about the library’s impressive architecture, including the prestigious first floor reading room, and hear about the damage the building endured during the Belfast Blitz.

During the tour, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the library’s rich history and an exclusive view of some of the library’s most treasured special collections and hidden gems that are rarely on display.

“We are delighted to offer these tours as part of the European Heritage Open Days. It’s a wonderful chance for people to connect with our local heritage and appreciate the cultural significance of Belfast Central Library,” said Eileen McVerry, Libraries NI Senior Services Manager. “We invite everyone to join us for what promises to be a fascinating and enjoyable experience.”

These FREE tours are open to all members of the public and booking is not required so just come along on the day and join in. For any further information, contact Belfast Central Library on t:028 9050 9150 or e:belfast.central@librariesni.org.uk.
