Families invited to Happy Prince volunteering event in Enniskillen Library
Published 28 Apr 2026
Families across Fermanagh and Omagh are invited to come together for a unique event in Enniskillen Library this May, combining storytelling, creativity and community action.
Taking place on Saturday 16 May from 11:00am to 1:00pm, ‘The Happy Prince: Family Volunteering Event’ will bring Oscar Wilde’s much-loved tale to life through a series of relaxed and engaging activities for all ages.
Delivered with Volunteer Now, the event will begin with a short storytelling session, introducing families to the story of The Happy Prince and its themes of kindness and generosity. This will be followed by a hands-on craft activity, where children can create their own golden swallow inspired by the story.
At the heart of the event is a pop-up volunteering activity as part of the PeacePlus Programme, offering families the chance to work together to create care packages for people experiencing loneliness in the local community. Using simple materials such as lavender pouches and handmade cards, participants will contribute to a thoughtful initiative that reflects the spirit of the story.
Throughout the event, a dedicated ‘Family Switch Off’ area will also be available, providing a calm, screen-free space with games, refreshments and opportunities to relax together.
This special event highlights how libraries can bring stories to life while creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect and make a positive difference in their community.
The event is free to attend and no booking is required.
