‘Give It a Go’ This February in Local Libraries
Published 20 Jan 2025
Libraries NI is delighted to invite everyone to Give It a Go this February with an exciting programme of free events designed to inspire you to try something new, develop a skill, or simply enjoy a fresh experience at your local library.
From becoming more active to exploring a new hobby or enhancing your wellbeing, libraries across Northern Ireland are hosting a variety of activities to suit all interests.
This year, explore our exciting range of free events designed to inspire, teach and get you involved in something new. Highlights include ‘Climbing to New Heights’ in Ballyclare Library on Friday 28 February, where Dr Eileen Lisk shares her incredible journey through India, Nepal and her trek to Everest.
Discover a new skill with a six-week course, an Introduction to British Sign Language in Carryduff Library, starting on Wednesday 19 February and led by Yanahir McPhillips from St Joseph Deaf Centre. Get creative with workshops like candle painting, cross-stitch and decoupage, or come along to local author talks, classes to help get online and much more.
Dr Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive said:
“Libraries are vibrant hubs of activity and learning, situated in the heart of local communities. Following the success of last year’s Give It a Go, we’re excited to bring back this initiative and with a variety of free events planned in libraries, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
“This is a fantastic chance for both regular visitors and those who haven't stepped into a library in years to rediscover everything libraries have to offer. Bring a friend or family member and encourage each other to Give It a Go.”
All events are free to attend, but booking is recommended. Click here for details on participating libraries and the full programme.
You don’t need to be a library member to join in the fun, but signing up has its perks and is a great way to support your library!
With a free membership, you can borrow books, access computers and the internet, and explore eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and eNewspapers online. Joining takes just minutes online and our friendly library staff are always happy to help you get started.
