A group of people outside celebrating togetherLibraries in Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne are coming together to mark Loneliness Awareness Week 2025, running from 9 to 13 June, with an engaging line-up of free events designed to foster connection, celebrate community, and highlight the support available across the Borough.

Throughout the week, each library will host a special event day filled with opportunities to meet new people, try something creative, and learn about local services that can make a real difference. Whether you're picking up a paintbrush, enjoying live music, or simply stopping by for a chat, the programme is all about making space for connection.

A highlight in all three locations will be the Kindness Postbox—an open invitation for visitors of all ages to write a cheerful letter, draw a picture, or share a positive message. These uplifting notes will be collected and passed on to residents in local care homes, bringing joy to others in a simple but powerful way.

Each library event will feature a similar programme of activities, tailored to its local community. Mornings begin with Support and Service Advisory Sessions (from 11:00am to 4:00pm), where visitors can drop in for a confidential conversation with their local Connect North Link Worker and explore the range of emotional, social and practical services available nearby.

Guided historical walks from 11:00am to 12 noon will give attendees the chance to enjoy fresh air and local stories with qualified guides from the Northern Ireland Tour Guide Association.

At 1:00pm, each library will host a live musical performance, with a different local act bringing their unique energy—from solo artist Matthew Calderwood in Ballymena, to the Eden Primary School Ukulele Band in Carrickfergus, and the Roddensvale School Choir in Larne.

Afternoons will round off with a relaxing Watercolour Workshop from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, led by artist Helen Bradbury. These sessions are suitable for all skill levels and offer a calm, creative way to unwind and connect with others. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential for this activity.

Visitors can also browse all-day information panels staffed by local organisations, offering advice and signposting to helpful services. Across the three libraries, groups such as Start 360, Northern Connections, Good Morning Ballymena, Impact Network, Access Employment Larne, and the Mae Murray Foundation will be present, with representation varying slightly by location.

Whether you're curious about community support, keen to meet new people, or simply looking to take part in something uplifting, Loneliness Awareness Week in Mid and East Antrim libraries offers a welcoming space for everyone.

All events are free of charge, and booking is required for the advisory sessions and workshops.
