Libraries NI Launch Big Summer Read

Libraries across Northern Ireland are inviting children of primary school age to take part in this year’s Big Summer Read, a 66-day challenge designed to get young people reading for at least 15 minutes a day throughout the school holidays. The Big Summer Read encourages daily reading and regular library visits from Friday 27 June to the end of August.

Discover the Language and Culture of Mandarin at Ormeau Road Library

Ormeau Road Library is offering local residents the chance to explore a new language this June with a free two-part Introduction to Mandarin course for adult beginners. Delivered in partnership with The Open University, the workshops will be led by tutor Ximena Arias-Manzano and will introduce participants to the basics of Mandarin Chinese, including elements of both language and cultural understanding.

LIBRARIES NI SUMMER OPENING HOURS

Libraries NI’s Summer Opening Hours across the network of libraries will take effect from Monday 30 June until Saturday 30 August 2025. Many customers use the library differently over the summer period and therefore the opening hours have been adjusted accordingly. Libraries will be open to 6:00pm instead of 8:00pm during this period, late-night opening after 6:00pm will recommence from Monday 1 September.

Libraries NI is inviting readers of all ages to enjoy a special Pop-Up Book Sale on Saturday 14 June, from 9:00am to 12 noon at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast. This one-off event gives visitors the chance to purchase a tote bag and fill it with their choice of pre-loved books – just £8 for library members and £10 for non-members.
