All public libraries in Northern Ireland will be closed on Monday 31 August and Mobile Libraries will not be on the road. The Out of Hours Service will be available in applicable libraries. You can check out our eResources via our website or app.

Tea and Newspapers  

Weekly every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday morning from 10:30am to 12 noon.
 

Tea and Newspapers groups give adults the opportunity to meet new people, socialise and discuss local and national affairs in the newspapers while enjoying complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits.

Chatterbooks Junior Reading Group  

First Saturday of every month (please contact the library for specific dates) between 11:30am – 12:30pm.
 

Booking is advisable.

Chatterbooks is an exciting Junior Reading Group where children aged 7 - 11 years can come along to chat about their favourite books, enjoy fun activities and crafts and meet new friends.

Rhythm and Rhyme (Tuesday and Saturday Mornings)  

Weekly every Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 11:00am.

Booking is advisable.
Rhythm and Rhyme sessions introduce parents and children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories.

Each session offers an entertaining opportunity for children to engage with others, provides a good foundation to develop their reading, listening and language skills and of course to have lots of fun!

Knit and Natter (Tuesdays)  

Weekly every Tuesday from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
 

Knit and Natter Groups are for adults who enjoy knitting, crochet, cross stitch and other crafts. They are free of charge to attend and participants have the opportunity to share hints and tips, swap patterns, meet new people and learn new skills. Members can bring along a project they are already working on or can start something new.

Second Monday of every month between 11:00am – 12 noon.
 

This group aims to allow everyone’s reading experiences to be shared and enjoyed. Participants don’t have to be library members but if you join, you can borrow the book the group will be discussing for free.

Ballycastle's Hotels: Their Rise, Fall and Rise Again  

Join local historian Sean McMichael at Ballycastle Library for a fascinating journey through almost 300 years of Ballycastle's hotel history. Discover where the town's hotels were located, who they served, and how they evolved over the decades. The talk will explore the stories behind some of Ballycastle's best-known establishments, including the iconic Antrim Arms Hotel, and will be illustrated with a range of historical images and photographs.

‘Under the Tree’ Storytime  

Weekly, every Monday from 2:15pm to 2:45pm. Suitable for ages 4-8 years accompanied by an adult.

Storytime sessions help children develop a love of books, improve their listening skills, inspire creativity and feeds their imagination. Join our friendly staff as they read popular books and introduce children to a whole range of different authors.

As part of European Heritage Open Days, join Ballycastle Library for a fascinating exploration of the stories hidden within the placenames of the Causeway Coast. From Ballycastle and Rathlin to Fair Head and Murlough Bay, discover how local place names reveal clues about our landscape, language, history and heritage. This talk will uncover the meanings behind familiar names and explore the influences of Irish, Scots, Norse and English traditions on our area.

Roald Dahl Day: The Twits Craft  

Celebrate Roald Dahl Day at Ballycastle Library with a craft session inspired by one of Roald Dahl's most mischievous stories, The Twits. Children will create their own silly Mr and Mrs Twit characters, complete with crazy hair, bushy beards and plenty of mixed-up mischief! Along the way, we'll share some of Roald Dahl's funniest stories and favourite characters. Suitable for children aged 4-10; children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Human Library Project ‘Ageing Well in Autumn’  

As part of Positive Ageing Month, in partnership with Northern Health and Social Care Trust and part of the Causeway Loneliness Network, Ballycastle Library is delighted to welcome you to our Human Library Project, where the theme will focus on ‘Ageing Well in Autumn’. The Human Library is a way for people to reach out and connect with individuals in their community that they might not normally engage with. Celebrate Good Relations Week with a fun children's activity exploring the theme of sense of place. Through local stories, folklore and creative activities, children will discover how heritage, shared stories and community connections help shape our identity and belonging. Participants will receive a take-home trail map to encourage further exploration of Ballycastle and its stories. ‘The Lobster Pot' by Bernie McQuillan - Live Reading, Discussion and Q&A Session  

As part of Book Week NI, Ballycastle Library is delighted to welcome local author, Bernie McQuillan, who will deliver a live reading, discussion and Question & Answer session on her novel ‘The Lobster Pot’ - a riveting family saga of high drama and tension, of intrigue, lies and suspense. Using this original concept story, Bernie will provide a unique live reading, discussion on the origins of how ‘The Lobster Pot’ was written, her own creative journey and an interactive question and answer session with those in attendance.
