Enniskillen Library Redevelopment Plans Progress

Libraries NI can confirm that a contractor has now been appointed and work will soon commence on the new Enniskillen Library.

In order for this work to proceed, Enniskillen Library will close to the public from Monday 21 September 2026, with the last day of opening on Saturday 19 September.

The closure marks an important stage in plans to provide a new, modern library for Enniskillen and the wider community.

Libraries NI is currently working to secure temporary premises in Enniskillen for the duration of the redevelopment, recognising the important role the library plays in the local community and the need to maintain access to services while work on the new library takes place. It is anticipated that the temporary library will open in late autumn, with further details announced once arrangements are finalised.

While work continues to establish the temporary facilities, a mobile library service will be available from Monday to Friday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at Cornagrade Road Car Park, opposite the Kilmacormick Road junction. From Monday 21 September, additional opening hours will also be introduced at Lisnaskea and Irvinestown libraries, providing customers with access to library services in the area. However, customers can continue to use any library across Northern Ireland.

Arrangements are also being made to ensure continued access to Enniskillen Library’s heritage resources. From Thursday 1 October, heritage material will be available in Lisnaskea Library, including microfilm readers and printers which will be onsite for public use during normal library opening hours.

Materials from the Fermanagh Collection, including information packs, maps and bound newspaper volumes, will be available through a retrieval service during library opening hours. Staff at Lisnaskea Library will be available to assist with heritage enquiries.
 
Libraries NI members can borrow and return items at any library across Northern Ireland and can continue to access a wide range of free online services, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and eNewspapers.

“The closure of Enniskillen Library is a necessary step as plans for the redevelopment of the library move forward.

“We recognise that the closure will mean a period of change for our customers and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We are working to put temporary library provision in place in Enniskillen by the late autumn and we hope that additional opening hours at Lisnaskea and Irvinestown libraries will help customers to access library services in Fermanagh.

“We would like to thank our customers and the local community for their patience and understanding as we work towards providing a new library for Enniskillen.”
