Libraries NI asks Customers to Have Their Say

Libraries NI asks Customers to Have Their Say
Published 16 Oct 2026

Have Your SayLibraries NI is encouraging customers, communities and stakeholders to take part in the Department for Communities consultation on a new Policy for Public Libraries.

The Department for Communities has launched the consultation to gather views on the proposed policy, which will help set the direction and vision for public library services in Northern Ireland for the next ten years.

Public Libraries are used in many different ways. For some, they are a place to borrow books and discover new authors, engage with the arts or cultural heritage, for others, they provide access to computers and digital services, somewhere to study or learn, activities for children and families, opportunities to meet others, or a welcoming community space.

The consultation gives people across Northern Ireland an opportunity to share their experiences and views and contribute to consideration of public library services now and in the future.

Chief Executive of Libraries NI, Jim O’Hagan said:

“This is an important consultation for public libraries and the communities they serve. Libraries NI wants to make sure our customers know that they have an opportunity to take part and make their views heard.

“We are encouraging people to engage with the consultation and say what they value about public libraries and what matters to them for the future. Hearing from people across Northern Ireland will help ensure a broad range of experiences and perspectives are represented.”

The consultation is open to individuals, organisations and stakeholders across Northern Ireland until 25 November 2026, 11:59pm, and can be completed at
