Libraries NI invites communities to take ‘Time for Tea’ this Mental Health Awareness Week
Published 22 Apr 2026

Time For TeaLibraries NI is inviting people across Northern Ireland to take some time out and visit their local library during Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May) as part of a new ‘Time for Tea’ initiative.

Taking place in libraries across the network, these free sessions will offer a simple and welcoming opportunity for people to call in, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and spend time in relaxed conversation.

Designed to be informal and accessible, ‘Time for Tea’ aims to encourage people to connect with others, take a break from busy routines and spend time in a familiar and supportive environment.

Libraries NI has long played a role in supporting wellbeing, offering not only access to books and information, but also safe, inclusive and welcoming, spaces where people can come in, sit and spend time at their own pace.

During the week, visitors will also be able to explore a range of resources in their local library, including books on wellbeing, mental health and resilience, as well as available information on local support services.

Libraries may also host additional activities throughout the week, including reading groups, creative sessions and informal discussions, reflecting local interests and partnerships.

Libraries NI Chief Executive Jim O’Hagan said;
“Libraries are trusted and welcoming spaces at the heart of communities. ‘Time for Tea’ is a simple way of bringing people together, encouraging conversation and as a reminder their local library is a place where they can take time out, connect with others and access support if they need it.”

All ‘Time for Tea’ sessions are free to attend and open to everyone. Visitors are encouraged to drop into their local library during the week and spend some time in a relaxed and friendly setting.
