Give It a Go in libraries this FebruaryLibraries NI is inviting everyone across Northern Ireland to Give It a Go this February, with a vibrant programme of free events designed to encourage people to try something new, learn a skill or enjoy a different experience in their local library.

From creativity and culture to wellbeing and digital skills, libraries will be hosting a wide range of activities aimed at adults, families and anyone curious to step outside their comfort zone.

This year’s programme includes opportunities to explore music and creativity, discover new cultures and build confidence in everyday skills. Highlights include hands-on music sessions such as harps and belleplates in Enniskillen Library, creative workshops where you can try something new such as Japanese calligraphy and continuous line drawing, and travel talks like Following the Mekong in Ballyclare Library, sharing stories and experiences from across Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

There are also relaxed social sessions focused on wellbeing and connection, including Young at Heart activities, poetry reading and writing evenings, and practical sessions to help people get more confident using online library services and digital tools. For those looking for something a little different, libraries will also host games-based sessions such as Dungeons and Dragons, alongside family-friendly creative activities and craft workshops.

As part of Give It a Go, customers can also take part in a free online journalling event led by Ian Megrath from The Paper Sparrow, an avid journal keeper and host of journaling events in Belfast.

This two-part evening session on Tuesday 24 and Thursday 26 February at 7:00pm, offers a welcoming introduction to journalling, exploring how it can be used as a creative and mindful practice for reflection and self-expression. Suitable for beginners and anyone curious about starting a journalling habit, the sessions provide simple, practical ideas that can be used straight away.

Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive, said:

“Libraries are welcoming, community-centred spaces where people can learn, connect and try something new. Following the positive response to Give It a Go last year, we’re delighted to bring it back with an even wider range of free events taking place in libraries across Northern Ireland.

“Whether you’re a regular library user or haven’t visited in a while, Give It a Go is a great opportunity to rediscover what your local library has to offer, meet new people and enjoy something different in a relaxed and friendly setting.”

All events are free to attend, though booking is recommended for some sessions. Full details of participating libraries and the Give It a Go programme are available here.
