Step Back in Time with the Big Summer ReadHistory is coming to life in libraries across Northern Ireland this summer as the Big Summer Read invites children and families to explore the past through a series of fascinating events inspired by local heritage, historical stories and hands-on discovery.

One of the highlights takes place at Ballymena Central Library, where Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Museum Services will present Summer in Victorian Ballymena. Through artefacts, stories and interactive activities, children can discover what life was like in the town during the Victorian era and gain a glimpse into everyday life more than 100 years ago.

Across the summer, libraries are teaming up with museums and heritage organisations to offer even more opportunities for young explorers. Families can uncover local stories with the War Memorial Museum, discover fascinating objects and collections through events with North Down Museum, and enjoy activities inspired by castles, Vikings, archaeology and local history.

By combining reading with hands-on experiences, the Big Summer Read encourages children to discover that history is more than dates in a textbook. Every story offers a chance to travel to another time, meet remarkable characters and learn something new about the world around them.
