A Fresh New Look as Creggan Library Reopens
Published 11 Mar 2024
Creggan Library has today reopened its doors with a fresh new look and is welcoming customers from the local community back into the library following a period of closure for refurbishment.
The refurbishment project has brought about several notable improvements, including the installation of a new roof with enhanced insulation capabilities as well as the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting throughout.
Internally, the library has undergone a transformation, with the introduction of a new ceiling, new furniture and redecoration of walls and flooring to create a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment for visitors of all ages.
In addition to these upgrades, Creggan Library has expanded its children's library, offering young readers an even greater selection of books and resources to explore. The newly expanded space is thoughtfully designed to foster a love of reading and learning from an early age, providing a welcoming and engaging environment for children and families.
The children's library features bright new furniture including low level bookshelves for children to pick their own books from, new desks and chairs, a dedicated storytelling and activities area along with sensory equipment designed to enhance the overall experience for young visitors.
From comfortable seating perfect for curling up with a good book, to interactive sensory equipment that stimulates the senses and encourages hands-on exploration, every element has been carefully selected to create a dynamic and engaging environment for children of all ages.
Maura Craig, Libraries NI Area Manager said;
"We are thrilled to reopen the library again and are inviting everyone from the local community to come in and rediscover the newly renovated space and all it has to offer. From expanded book collections to engaging programming and resources for adults and children, the reopening is very welcome, and we look forward to greeting returning and new customers over the coming weeks and to getting our regular events back up and running.”
Creggan Library is open five days a week including a Saturday and regular events in the library include Rhythm and Rhyme sessions for parents/carers and preschool children, Lego Club, Tea and Newspapers and Knit and Natter. Click here to find out more about Creggan Library and its opening hours.
