Get Ready for Exam Time in Your Local Library
Published 01 May 2024
As exam season approaches, finding the perfect study space is crucial so look no further than your local library! Students of all ages are encouraged to take advantage of their local libraries which offer free, ideal environments equipped with everything you need to prepare for what can be a stressful time of year.
There are local libraries in communities right across Northern Ireland, many of which have late night opening and study spaces available. In addition, the Out of Hours Service provides open access to some libraries outside of normal opening hours which is especially beneficial for students living in rural locations. To use this service, students under 18 must be accompanied by a registered member aged 18 years or over.
Students can visit any public library in Northern Ireland to take full advantage of the designated study areas which are equipped with desks, comfortable chairs, and nearby power points to plug in personal devices. They also offer FREE, reliable Wi-Fi and access to library computers, as well as low-cost printing and photocopying facilities.
To support students further Digital Hubs equipped with communication software and privacy screens for lectures or tutor sessions are also available.
Libraries NI Service Development Manager Brid Steele said;
"Libraries provide the ideal setting for focused and productive studying, away from distractions. Whether you prefer solo study or group sessions, libraries offer a supportive space. To help relax during breaks, anyone can pick up the latest best-selling novel or download a favourite eMagazine while lounging on the nearby comfortable seating.
“There is also a full range of health-related books and eMagazines covering many important topics which students face today, including how to cope with stress and anxiety and tips on maintaining a good diet and fitness.”
Library membership is free and open to all students in Northern Ireland. By becoming a member, students gain access to a comprehensive suite of services tailored to students' needs including borrowing books, exploring digital resources like Access to Research, benefiting from the Civic Access Scheme for access to Ulster University Library and participating in social activities - all at no cost.
Libraries NI is committed to supporting education and providing a conducive environment for students to excel so whether seeking a quiet space for focused study or access to valuable resources, make your local library your go-to study destination this exam season.
