Banbridge Library Open Seven Days a Week with Introduction of Out of Hours Service
Published 22 Oct 2024
Libraries NI has installed new technology in Banbridge Library to provide the local community with more options to use facilities at a time that suits them with an additional 51 hours per week through an Out of Hours service.
The additional 51 hours, through the Out of Hours service will allow customers to have extended access to an important range of facilities on a self-service basis including computers, printing, Wi-Fi, study space and book borrowing. Due to the introduction of this service, the library is now open every day until 10:00pm including from 1:00pm – 10:00pm on a Sunday.
The project, with funding from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), is aimed at supporting access to broadband in rural areas. After operating the Out of Hours Service successfully in seven other rural libraries, the service has recently been extended to include Banbridge Library.
Dr Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive said;
“The Out of Hours service has already proved popular in Banbridge and indeed in other libraries with a wide range of the community using the facility including students, regular library customers, freelance businesspeople, local groups and parents coming in with children. The additional opening hours provides the local community with more options to use Banbridge Library at a time that suits them.”
To access the library during the Out of Hours service hours, you must be aged 18 or over and be a library member. Children under 18 are welcome to use the service accompanied for the entire duration of their visit by an adult member.
To access the library building during the Out of Hours timetable, current and new customers must register in Banbridge Library where a member of staff will demonstrate the operational and safety measures involved. If you are not yet a member then you can simply sign up to library membership which is free and open to all.
The Out of Hours service is currently available in Banbridge, Dungiven, Irvinestown, Lisnaskea, Maghera, Omagh, Saintfield and Whitehead libraries.
