Belfast Central Library As part of European Heritage Open Days 2023, Libraries NI is once again throwing open the doors of Belfast Central Library for behind the scenes tours.

On Saturday 9 September at 10:30am and 2:30pm, members of the public are invited to come along to find out more about the history (and the secrets) of Northern Ireland’s oldest public library. Come along to view the impressive architecture, take a look at the prestigious first floor reading room, hear about the damage caused by the Belfast Blitz and see some of the library’s special collections as well as a few hidden treasures.

European Heritage Open Days (EHOD) is Northern Ireland’s annual celebration of local architecture, history and culture and Eileen McVerry, Senior Services Manager with Libraries NI, explains why this year’s event is particularly exciting:

“We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s EHOD as 2023 also marks 135 years since the official opening of Belfast Central Library. We have a week-long celebration of events planned for our birthday in October and the two tours on Saturday 9 September will be a taster of what is to come.”

EHOD tours of Belfast Central Library are FREE and will take place on Saturday 9 September at 10:30am and 2:30pm.  For more information telephone the library on 028 9050 9150 or email belfast.central@librariesni.org.uk
