Santa's sleigh and reindeer flying over Belfast Central LibraryIt’s going to be a holly, jolly Christmas at Belfast Central Library and you’re invited to join in the fun!

The cast of the Lyric Theatre's Christmas show, 'Hansel and Gretel', will kick off the celebrations on Friday 1 December at 3:00pm with a special Christmas lights switch on event. This is a great opportunity to see the library’s dazzling Christmas tree lights and enjoy some refreshments while soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Sian Cairns, District Officer with Belfast Central, is keen to encourage everyone to come along and get involved.

“This is just the beginning of the library’s twelve days of Christmas celebrations, and library staff can't wait to share the joy and excitement with everyone. As well as hosting a programme of events throughout December, we’re attempting to make the longest paper chain! So, if you happen to be in the building, please do ask staff for some links.

“Our heritage staff have also delved into the theatre archive, and we are showing pantomime posters and programmes from the 1800s to the 1980s, oh yes we are!”

“A tour of Belfast Central Library will take place on Saturday 2 December at 11:00am where you can see behind the scenes and get a look at some of the Christmas Treasures from the library’s Fine Book Room. Other highlights include a Christmas coffee morning as well as Rhythm and Rhyme, Storytime and Crafts for the little ones and festive readings from the Guild of Library Writers.”

The Christmas 2023 events programme has expired.
