Libraries NI is inviting audiences to a special evening celebrating the life and work of one of Northern Ireland’s most celebrated poets, Louis MacNeice, in Antrim Library on Tuesday 30 June at 6:30pm.
Broadcaster William Crawley will be joined by acclaimed writer and literary historian Patricia Craig for a screening and discussion exploring MacNeice’s life, poetry and enduring influence.
The evening will feature Glenn Patterson’s documentary on MacNeice, which traces the poet’s journey from his childhood in Carrickfergus to his distinguished literary career. Through archive footage, recordings and interviews, the film offers a fascinating insight into the experiences, places and people that shaped his writing.
Following the screening, William Crawley and Patricia Craig will discuss MacNeice’s legacy and the continued relevance of his work today, offering audiences an opportunity to learn more about one of the most important literary voices to emerge from Northern Ireland.
Visitors can also explore the BBC Louis MacNeice exhibition currently on display in Antrim Library, which showcases material relating to the poet’s life and work. The exhibition is available to view during normal library opening hours.
