Discover nature on your doorstep with Go Green at Libraries NI

From building bird feeders and bug homes to creating seed paper and swapping seeds with fellow gardeners, Libraries NI is inviting people of all ages to discover the wildlife on their doorstep as part of Go Green with Libraries NI this September.

A programme of free nature-inspired events will encourage children, families and adults to connect with the environment through creative activities, gardening projects and practical workshops, highlighting the simple actions everyone can take to support local wildlife and biodiversity.

Nature-inspired events will take place in libraries across Northern Ireland throughout September. In Whitehead Library on Saturday 12 September, children can create habitats for insects during Bugs Need Homes Too!, learning about the important role insects play in our ecosystem. Families visiting Larne Library on Monday 14 September can make a Winter Bird Feeder to help local wildlife through the colder months, while Ballyclare Library will host a Birdhouse Craft Fun session on Tuesday 15 September, encouraging young nature lovers to create homes for garden birds.
 
Later in the month, Castlewellan Library will hold a Pop-Up Seed Swap on Friday 18 September, inviting gardeners to exchange seeds and growing tips, while Larne Library's Eco Rangers will continue their weekly community litter picks throughout September, helping volunteers keep the local environment litter free.

The events demonstrate that supporting nature doesn't have to involve major changes. Planting wildflowers, feeding birds, creating habitats for insects and growing plants at home are all simple steps that can make a positive difference for local biodiversity while helping people enjoy and appreciate the natural world around them.
