Go Green with Libraries NIChildren and families across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to discover how small actions can make a big difference for nature this September as Libraries NI launches a programme of free bee-themed events as part of Go Green with Libraries NI Month.

Bees and other pollinators play a vital role in supporting biodiversity, with more than three-quarters of wild flowering plants benefiting from insect pollination and one in three bites of food we eat relying on pollinators. Through a range of fun, hands-on activities, children will learn how they can help create bee-friendly spaces while discovering the important role pollinators play in the natural environment.

Families can enjoy bee-themed events in libraries across Northern Ireland throughout the month. The programme begins at Falls Road Library on Thursday 3 September with Bee the Change!, where children can decorate flowerpots and plant wildflower seed paper to help create bee-friendly spaces.

On Friday 4 September, children can roll up their sleeves at Ballymena Central Library during a Bee Friendly Workshop, planting pollinator-friendly flowers and learning simple ways to help wildlife at home while Banbridge Library will host an eco-themed Storytime and activity on Saturday 5 September.

Later in the month, families can enjoy a Save the Bees Craft at Castlewellan Library on Wednesday 16 September, before Antrim Library rounds off the programme on Saturday 26 September with a Save the Bees Workshop, where children can decorate flowerpots, plant pollinator-friendly seeds and discover how they can help local wildlife.

The events form part of Libraries NI's month-long Go Green campaign, encouraging people of all ages to take practical steps towards a more sustainable future through free workshops, talks and family activities taking place in libraries across Northern Ireland.

Helen Poston, Libraries NI Service Development Manager, said:

"Helping nature can start with something as simple as planting flowers for bees or creating a welcoming space for pollinators in a garden, window box or even a single flowerpot. Through these fun, hands-on activities, children and families can learn more about the important role pollinators play while discovering simple actions they can continue at home.

Go Green with Libraries NI is all about showing that small actions, taken together, can have a positive impact on our environment, and we hope these events will inspire families to get involved."
