Libraries NI supports Autism Awareness with inclusive events across Antrim and Newtownabbey

Libraries NI is inviting families across Antrim and Newtownabbey to take part in a series of free, inclusive events in libraries this April to mark Autism Awareness Week.
Designed to be welcoming and accessible, the programme includes sensory Storytimes, relaxed play sessions and interactive activities, offering children and families the opportunity to enjoy library spaces in a way that suits their needs.
Events are taking place in libraries across the area, including:
Antrim Library – Happy Hands Duplo Session
Friday 3 April, 10:00am–11:00am
A quiet, relaxed Duplo session for children aged 2–10, encouraging creativity in a calm environment. Booking essential.
Cloughfern Library – Sensory Storytime
Thursday 9 April, 2:30pm–3:00pm
A gentle, sensory Storytime designed to support children who benefit from a more relaxed setting. Booking essential.
Glengormley Library - Easter Sensory Storytime
Thursday 9 April, 11:30am – 12:30pm
Come along to Glengormley Library and enjoy an Easter themed Sensory Storytime.

Easter Scavenger Hunt –
Friday 10 April, 10:00am – 12 noon
Join us in Glengormley Library for an Autism Friendly Easter themed Scavenger Hunt! Booking essential.
Randalstown Library – Hippity Hop, Beats and Bop
Saturday 11 April, 11:00am – 12 noon
Come along for a fun morning of Easter themed activity. Enjoy a story, activity, and a scavenger hunt. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Rathcoole Library – Sensory Stay and Play Day
Thursday 16 April, 10:30am–4:30pm
Sensory Stay and Play Day
Join us for a day of play to celebrate Autism Awareness, with sessions for different age groups. Perfect for home schoolers and groups.
10:30am - 11:30am 0 - 4years: Sensory Story, sensory equipment play, and Duplo
11:45am - 12:45pm 4-8 years: Sensory Story, sensory Equipment Play, Duplo and Lego
2:00pm - 3:00pm 8-13years: Brain Gym, Sensory Story sack, sensory equipment play and Lego
3:00pm - 4:30pm All ages: Board Games throughout library (socialisation practice with Sensory Space for those who need a break)
Booking is essential for all sessions.
Ballyclare Library – Sensory Storytime – Stay and Play
Tuesday 21 April, 6:45pm–7:30pm
A combined Storytime and play session with sensory resources available for families to explore together. Booking essential.
Crumlin Library – Sensory Storytime
Tuesday 21 April, 2:30pm–3:00pm
A welcoming sensory Storytime session designed to support engagement and enjoyment for all children. Booking essential.
These sessions are part of Libraries NI’s ongoing commitment to providing inclusive services and ensuring that everyone can feel comfortable and confident using their local library.
All events are free to attend, although booking is required for most sessions due to limited spaces.
