Mums Invited to Get Moving and Connect With Others Through Library Walking Groups
Published 30 Jun 2026
Libraries NI is encouraging mums across Antrim and Newtownabbey to take some time for themselves, get active and meet new people through Mums on the Move, a series of welcoming weekly walking groups taking place in local libraries across the borough.
Delivered with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Mums on the Move offers a relaxed and friendly environment where mums and their little ones can enjoy gentle exercise, fresh air and conversation while getting to know other mums in their local community.
Open to all abilities, the weekly sessions are informal and inclusive, giving participants the opportunity to walk at their own pace, support their wellbeing and build new friendships.
The programme takes place at four Libraries NI locations across the borough:
• Rathcoole Library – Mondays from 9:45am to 11:00am
• Randalstown Library – Wednesdays from 2:15pm to 3:30pm
• Antrim Library – Thursdays from 9:45am to 11:00am
• Ballyclare Library – Fridays from 10:45am to 12 noon
Jacqueline Bingham, Libraries NI District Officer, said:
"Mums on the Move is a great opportunity for mums to take some time out of their busy routines, enjoy being active outdoors and meet others in a friendly and supportive environment. Libraries are at the heart of communities and initiatives like this help bring people together while supporting health and wellbeing."
The sessions reflect the growing role of libraries as welcoming community spaces that support not only reading and learning, but also health, wellbeing and opportunities for people to come together.
Mums are encouraged to come along to a session, meet other local parents and enjoy a relaxed walk in good company. Whether you're joining for the exercise, the conversation or simply a chance to get out of the house, you'll be made very welcome.
