From Sea Songs to Spring Crafts, Libraries Across Causeway Coast and Glens Come Alive This May

A photo of a crafts session in a libraryLibraries across Causeway Coast and Glens are set to welcome communities this May with a varied and engaging programme of events designed to bring people together, encourage creativity and offer something for all ages.

From seasonal crafts and creative workshops to festival celebrations and relaxed cultural events, libraries in Ballycastle, Ballymoney and beyond will be hosting a range of opportunities for people to call in, take part and enjoy time in a welcoming space.

In Ballycastle Library, activity throughout the month reflects both the changing season and the wider cultural calendar. Younger visitors can get creative at a Mini Marathon Medal Makers workshop on Friday 1 May at 3:30pm, celebrating the excitement of marathon season through hands-on craft.

The library will also take part in the Rathlin Sound Festival, with themed events including a ‘Message in a Bottle’ craft session on Friday 22 May at 3:30pm, and a special ‘Songs of the Sea’ workshop on Thursday 28 May at 6:30pm, bringing local stories, music and traditions to life in a relaxed evening setting.

Across Causeway Coast and Glens, libraries will also be joining in the excitement of one of the region’s biggest events, the North West 200, with a series of themed activities for children taking place in the lead-up to race week.

In Coleraine Library, children aged 4–10 can get involved in an ‘All Rev’d Up’ paddock bunting craft session on Saturday 2 May from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, helping to create a race-inspired display for the Children’s Area.

Ballymoney Library will host a ‘Design Your Own Motorbike Helmet’ workshop on Thursday 7 May from 3:00pm to 3:30pm, where children aged 4–10 can celebrate this iconic local event through creative play.

In Portrush Library, younger visitors can drop in during race day on Saturday 9 May from 12:15pm to 1:00pm for a ‘Ready! Steady! Go!’ motorbike and helmet craft session, adding to the buzz of the day with colourful, hands-on activity.

Meanwhile, Portstewart Library will invite children aged 4–10 to take part in a ‘LEGO Racers’ Challenge on Saturday 2 May from 10:30am to 12 noon, where they can build their own race-ready creations and put them to the test.

These are just some of the events happening in Causeway Coast and Glens area this May, all events are free, with some requiring booking.
