Discover the Language and Culture of Mandarin at Ormeau Road Library

Ormeau Road Library is offering local residents the chance to explore a new language this June with a free two-part Introduction to Mandarin course for adult beginners. Delivered in partnership with The Open University, the workshops will be led by tutor Ximena Arias-Manzano and will introduce participants to the basics of Mandarin Chinese, including elements of both language and cultural understanding.

With 96 public libraries, Libraries NI plays a vital role in supporting connection and wellbeing through inclusive, welcoming spaces and activities.

LIBRARIES NI SUMMER OPENING HOURS

Libraries NI’s Summer Opening Hours across the network of libraries will take effect from Monday 30 June until Saturday 30 August 2025. Many customers use the library differently over the summer period and therefore the opening hours have been adjusted accordingly. Libraries will be open to 6:00pm instead of 8:00pm during this period, late-night opening after 6:00pm will recommence from Monday 1 September.

Libraries in Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne are coming together to mark Loneliness Awareness Week 2025, running from 9 to 13 June, with an engaging line-up of free events designed to foster connection, celebrate community, and highlight the support available across the Borough. Throughout the week, each library will host a special event day filled with opportunities to meet new people, try something creative, and learn about local services.

Libraries NI To Host Pop-Up Book Sale This June

Libraries NI is inviting readers of all ages to enjoy a special Pop-Up Book Sale on Saturday 14 June, from 9:00am to 12 noon at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast. This one-off event gives visitors the chance to purchase a tote bag and fill it with their choice of pre-loved books – just £8 for library members and £10 for non-members. With a wide range of genres available, there’s something for every reader.

Libraries NI is delighted to share that Jillian McFrederick, Libraries NI Stock Manager, is bringing the joy of books to the airwaves as she joins BBC Radio Ulster’s brand-new Peter Cinnamond Saturday afternoon show. Packed with summer vibes, feel-good music, and celebrity interviews, the show also features a new segment called Northern Ireland’s Newest Newlyweds, where Peter chats with couples fresh from exchanging vows.

Get Ready to Flamenco in Spain! Join Free Beginner Spanish Classes at Carrickfergus Library

Carrickfergus Library, in partnership with the Open University, will host a series of free Holiday Spanish language classes on Thursday 12, 19 and 26 June from 11:00am to 12:30pm. These three 90-minute Spanish language classes are designed for beginners to help you make the most of your upcoming trip to Spain and will be taught by Ximena Arias-Manzano, a lecturer in Spanish at The Open University in Belfast.

Lisburn City Library Marks World Music Day with Free Live Performances
