The title of the exhibition is Disability on the Record.
This exhibition provides an overview of how disability has been represented here over time, illustrated by a selection of contemporary images and historical records from the archives at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI). It explores how attitudes to disability have changed in terms of laws, language, and opportunities for deaf and disabled people to participate fully in society. The exhibition will be opened by Noelle McAlinden, Fermanagh High Sheriff Senga Sharkey is an emerging artist who creates colourful, textured, abstract paintings in response to her emotions and interpretations of the world around her.
She paints in layers, adding collage and mixed materials along with glazes of paint as the pieces demand. Her paintings are inspired by life’s events, by places she has been to and people she has met; by conversations she has valued and opinions she has held; by experiences which translate into universal themes.
Sharkey currently lives and paints in her native Fermanagh, working part-time in her local library, while concentrating on building up her art practice. She has exhibited in a number of online exhibitions and in Northern Irish galleries, including the Clinton Centre, Hambly & Hambly and the Strule Arts Centre. Admission is FREE.
