Free family events in libraries to celebrate Earth Day this April
Published 31 Mar 2026
Libraries NI is inviting families across Northern Ireland to celebrate Earth Day this April with a range of free, fun and hands-on events taking place in libraries.
With activities designed to help children learn more about the environment in an engaging and accessible way, the programme offers plenty of opportunities for families to get involved, try something new and spend time together in their local library.
From decorating plant pots and planting seeds to themed Storytimes and creative recycling activities, children will be encouraged to explore nature, think about sustainability and take home something they have made themselves. Many sessions focus on simple, practical actions, giving children a chance to learn about caring for the planet in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
Events are taking place in libraries across the country, including in Ballycastle, Cushendall, Dungiven, Garvagh, Portrush and Portstewart, as well as Omagh, Enniskillen, Donaghadee and Lisnaskea. Activities range from sunflower planting and spring crafts to storytelling sessions and creative workshops using recycled materials.
Alongside the events, families can come into their local library to discover books and resources on nature, gardening and sustainability, or simply enjoy a comfortable space to sit, read and spend time together.
All events are free to attend. Some may require booking due to limited places.
