Did you know that before Roald Dahl became a household name as a children's author, he published many short stories for an adult audience? Many of these have twists and turns and a dark humour that we saw versions of in his popular junior fiction writing in later years. 

This is the week where ‘Roald Dahl Day’ makes an appearance in our calendars, and we'd love to invite you along to Dungiven Library where you can take part in a shared reading experience - you are welcome to read parts of the story yourself with staff, or you can just listen if you prefer. Advisory charity SENAC are providing a free workshop explaining how the Special Educational Needs system works in NI and how parents can get support for their children in school. 
The topics covered include recent changes to the SEN system, requesting Statutory Assessments, Statements of SEN, Education Plans, and school-based support.

The NIPSO investigates complaints about public services in Northern Ireland. Two 45-minute workshops with a 15-minute break between sessions. 5-5.45pm and 6-6.45pm
Join Still I Rise Diversity Storytelling for a joyful and interactive workshop designed for children aged 4–11 years.
Through carefully selected picture books, creative art activities and guided discussion, children will explore themes of identity, culture, belonging and acceptance. Together, they'll celebrate what makes us unique while discovering the values and experiences that connect us all.
Each 45-minute session includes:

Harmony Too: Shapes, Songs & Poems by Philip Glass
 

Ahead of his 90th year, we'll perform a selection of stunning solo and duo works by the legendary composer Philip Glass. Gel Printing Using nature and a few supplementary techniques tutor Beverley Healy will show you how to create beautiful handmade prints using a gelatin or ‘gel’ plate. Andrew Kane, Townlands and Estates

Death and burial in Ireland 8000 BC - AD 400, 
with reference to Ulster.
 

The richness of the mortuary record that we have for Irish prehistory is a highlight of the archaeological record for that eight-thousand-year span of  time (8000 BC- AD 400). This lecture will consider changing patterns in the treatment of the dead of the earliest human generations who lived in Ireland, referring to Ulster, and how the evidence here relates to wider trends across the island and internationally. The lecture also provides an opportunity to reflect on the relationships between past and present mortuary practices.
